Note:
- Matsya Avatar or the Fish Incarnation is the first of the ten Divine Incarnations or Dasavatars of Lord Vishnu.
- Matsya slays a demon named Hayagreevasura ( son of sage Kashyapa and Diti) who steals the sacred scriptures – the Vedas and thus is lauded as the saviour of the scriptures.
- When the sacred hyms of the Vedas were lost in the waters of universal devastation, Vishnu swam like a boat in that vast ocean to rescue them. So, lord Vishnu took Fish form (Matsya incarnation)
